“What is Provenance to Proof?”
The Provenance to Proof™ framework and the Dual-Lens Method™ is a structured approach for tracing genealogical information to its origin, evaluating its transmission, and transforming information into evidence-based conclusions.

Genealogy begins with information:
Names, dates, and relationships—collected, recorded,
and repeated across sources. But too often information alone is accepted
as evidence, and repetition is taken for proof.
This book introduces a different approach.

Provenance to Proof is the first title in the Modern Genealogist Methodology Series, highlighting innovative resources that advance genealogical methodology through evidence-based research, critical thinking, and practical application.

ABOUT THE
AUTHOR
Helping others discover their origins, and how to craft and share those stories with meaning, sits at the heart of Kelly Richardson’s work as a genealogist and communications professional. Kelly combines disciplined research with clear, engaging storytelling to make history accessible and useful.
Her approach centers on service: guiding individuals, families, and organizations through the process of uncovering records, interpreting evidence, and transforming findings into narratives that connect the past and present. Whether assisting a family in understanding its heritage or helping an organization articulate its legacy, the goal is always the same – clarity, accuracy, and impact.
This work has extended across government, public, and private sectors. As a researcher contracted by the United States Marine Corps, Kelly contributed her genealogical expertise to projects of national importance.
Her role in the award-winning Gualala Pioneer Cemetery project, recognized by the Sonoma County Historical Records Commission and supported by a grant from the American Society of Genealogists, reflects a deep commitment to preserving community history with care and precision. Additional collaborations with the National Park Service and corporate archives have helped expand access to historical records, create confident narratives, and strengthen institutional storytelling.
Through published articles and presentations, Kelly shares practical guidance to help others research more effectively, think critically about sources, and communicate their findings with confidence. The focus remains on empowering others—not just to learn about the past, but to tell those stories in ways that endure.
